The Buffalo Sabres defender Brandon Montour has been out all season with a hand injury. The word from the Sabres is that he is now inching closer to a return.
Brandon Montour has been upgraded to day to day by the Buffalo Sabres. Montour has also regained his ability to grip a stick that had been impaired by the hand injury, and has returned to full contact practice with the team.
This update on Montour means that he could return to action anytime for Buffalo. That includes tonight’s game against the Arizona Coyotes if the Sabres deem he is fit to play. If he doesn’t return against Arizona, he will almost certainly be back in any games after that.
Montour returning could not come at a better time for Buffalo who just lost defender Marco Scandella to injuries. Montour is known as an excellent blue liner, and should bolster a Buffalo defensive unit that has already been playing well beyond expectations this season.
The biggest question now will be who the Sabres decide to pair with Montour. Here at Sabre Noise, we think that pairing Montour with Rasmus Dahlin would make the most sense. You would immediately have one of the most talented defensive pairings in the National Hockey League, and would give Dahlin a skilled veteran that he could learn from directly.
Regardless of who Montour is paired with, it is fantastic to see him back and nearly ready to play. Ever since Buffalo acquired Montour, fans knew they were getting a top tier defender, now it’s about finding the right spot for him to play and making sure that the Sabres don’t push him to hard coming off of a strange hand injury.
Welcome back to practice Brandon Montour, now it’s time to win some more hockey games!
