Coronavirus Pandemic: Jack Ma, Alibaba To Donate 4 million Masks, 400K Test Kits & 104 Ventilators

Jack Ma — Chinese Businessman magnate, investor, co-founder and former executive chairman of Alibaba Group — has taken to Twitter and announced that they will donate 2 million masks, 400,000 test kits, 104 ventilators to 24 Latin American countries including Argentina, Brazi, Cuba among others.

Jack Ma wrote on Twitter, “One world, one fight! We will donate emergency supplies – 2 million masks, 400K test kits, 104 ventilators – to 24 Latin American countries including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Ecuador, Dominican Republic and Peru. We will ship long-distance, and we will hurry! WE ARE ONE!”

On March 21, The Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba Foundation issued a statement stating that they have promised to increase their philanthropy efforts during the global coronavirus crisis by donating medical supplies to 10 more countries in Asia.

The governments of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Laos, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka will receive 1.8 million masks, 210,000 COVID-19 test kits and 36,000 pieces of protective clothing, as well as ventilators and forehead thermometers.

“Go Asia! We will donate emergency supplies to 10 more countries across Asia,” said Alibaba’s billionaire former chairman Jack Ma through his Twitter account. “Delivering fast is not easy, but we’ll get it done!” Jack Ma wrote on Twitter.

Prior to Asia, the two foundations had announced donations of medical supplies to Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines.

Jack Ma — whose net worth is estimated to be around $38.9 billion — stepped down as chairman of China’s e-commerce giant in September to focus on philanthropy.

Besides Jack Ma, China has also provided eight tons of medical supplies to Greece yesterday, state-run Xinhua News Agency reported.

Inspired by this unusual time of social distancing and home isolation amid the coronavirus pandemic, Josh Horowitz is launching a digital interview series aptly titled Stir Crazy.

The show will offer lively and humorous chats between Horowitz — who is holed up in his New York apartment — and various entertainers who join him via a remote video connection. Will Arnett kicks off the series as the first guest.

Upcoming stars include Dan Levy, Josh Hutcherson, Ed Helms, Ricky Gervais and Ben Schwartz. To keep his guests from going stir crazy, Horowitz will utilize games like Charades and I Spy. 

Known for his work as an MTV News correspondent, Horowitz also runs the Happy Sad Confused podcast and hosts scripted sketch comedy series After Hours on Comedy Central.

Amid his own quarantine, Horowitz has been vocal on social media about his experience at home, sometimes giving comedic anecdotes. “Quarantine Josh eats grilled cheese. Otherwise I’m pretty much the same,” he tweeted Friday.
