In a new book about the war between brothers Prince William and Harry, author and biographer Robert Lacey — who worked as a historical consultant for Netflix’s ‘The Crown’ — insists that the “seeds” of what is being called the “most profound” rift in the present royal generation “were sown” after the split of their parents Prince Charles and Princess Diana.
The press release of the new book titled ‘Battle of Brothers: William and Harry — the Friendship and the Feuds,’ alluded to the many rumors that have followed the reports of a storm brewing between Harry and William, that surfaced after the former married divorcée American actress Meghan Markle in 2017. While one of the rumors suggested that the Duke of Sussex did not take well to being warned by his brother to take things slowly with the ‘Suits’ star, another rumor indicated that it was Meghan who had overstepped the boundary and made Kate Middleton cry in the days leading up to the former’s wedding to Harry.
“Much reported on but little understood, Diana’s boys have lived under constant scrutiny since birth. Raised to be the closest of brothers, the last 18 months has seen a devastating breakdown of their once unbreakable bond. With unrivaled knowledge of court life and access to impeccable sources, Robert Lacey investigates the untold reality of the brothers’ relationship, explaining what happened when two sons were raised for vastly different futures and showing how the seeds of damage were sown as their parents’ marriage unraveled,” the release said.
The author of the book admitted that he had been “moved to tears” by the Royal Family’s conflict. “These two brothers — once inseparable and now separated by much more than mere distance — have been acting out the contradictions that go back into their childhoods and even before that: into their parents’ ill-fated marriage. I have seen conflicts between heir and spare in every recent generation of the Royal Family — but nothing so profound as this,” Lacey said.
The book, scheduled to be released on October 15, comes after it was reported that a royal biography titled ‘Finding Freedom: Harry, Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family’, written by royal experts Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, is set to release worldwide on August 11, 2020. The book is believed to be an opportunity for Meghan to tell her side and set the record straight, especially after being blamed for being the mastermind behind Megxit.
The official description of the book reads, “With unique access and written with the participation of those closest to the couple, ‘Finding Freedom’ is an honest, up-close, and disarming portrait of a confident, influential, and forward-thinking couple who are unafraid to break with tradition, determined to create a new path away from the spotlight, and dedicated to building a humanitarian legacy that will make a profound difference in the world.”
Royal insiders have said that the book has already been discredited by senior members of the Royal Family after they learned of Meghan and Harry’s endeavor after Megxit. “It was a soap opera. Everyone knows the narrative that’s coming. The feeling is that drama and everything that comes with it has left. Let the rest of the royal family get on with it. It’s just not a hot topic of conversation in the family. They have had so many books written about them that have lobbed some hefty bombs over the sides. They’re used to it,” said a source.
