The True Story Behind AMC’s ‘Quiz’ Proves Cheating Scandals Can Be the Best Mysteries

Featuring Sian Clifford from Fleabag and Matthew Macfadyen from Succession, the mini-series Quiz probably already has your attention, but allow me to spill some English Breakfast tea, because the mystifying true story behind Quiz and the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire coughing scandal is, like, some Zodiac killer sh*t. This really happened, and we really still don’t know what exactly happened.

Wait, tell me what happened.

The true crime story at the heart of the AMC and ITV mini-series started when Major Charles Ingram won Who Wants To Be A Millionaire in 2001 and days later was arrested with his wife Diana for cheating. Yes, their names really are Charles and Diana. According to The Independent, Diana and her brother had competed on the series before and she helped train her husband in button pressing before his appearance.

But how did they do it?!

Producers became suspicious when Charles’ behavior on the show seemed weird, and his correct final answers didn’t match any of his guesswork. Remember how a big part of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire is talking the question out? He even went so far as to say he’d never heard of a particular song, and then managed the name the singer out of nowhere.

The show’s producers also noticed that the guy waiting to go on after Charles, named Tecwen Whittock, would cough every time Charles would say a correct answer out loud and blow his nose when Charles was thinking about choosing a wrong answer. Whittock was arrested as a suspected accomplice along with Charles and Diana and the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire episode was not aired as planned.

So they totally cheated, right? Case closed? WRONG! Five years later, one of the journalists who covered the trial started having doubts. James Graham, who wrote Quiz and was once convinced of the Ingrams’ guilt, is no longer so sure. DUN DUN DUN!! The Ingrams became publicly mocked—in a brutal way that fans of the royal family know the British tabloids do best—and infamous instead of famous when they were put on trial. FWIW, all three people in the real-life situation were convicted, but none of them ended up serving any jail time. A lawyer for the couple is looking into appealing their case all these years later. Apparently there’s a thing now called cough analysis. Who knew!

They claim their innocence to this day. Maybe there was no big conspiracy and they really did win out of dumb luck. Maybe a cough is just a cough. My sincerest apologies for the following Dad joke, but it seems like in the case of the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire coughing scandal there is no… final answer.

Khloé Kardashian & Tristan Thompson Are House Hunting As A Couple For ‘Permanent’ Digs!

Things are getting serious… AGAIN!

Khloé Kardashian and Tristan Thompson‘s romance is apparently in the fast lane right now, with True Thompson‘s parents reportedly looking to purchase a new home together in the Hidden Hills or Calabasas neighborhood of California.

An insider spilled to Us Weekly on Wednesday:

“Khloé and Tristan want to buy a house together. Tristan wants to prove to Khloé that he has changed and wants to make this permanent with a family home.”

Sounds like they’re ready for a fresh start!

We just hope Tristan knows commitment isn’t a single gesture of buying a home — or a ring — but rather and ongoing promise that you stick to every day. And yes, even after the coronavirus is in the past, and he has to travel for basketball games again.

It’s been all but confirmed after MONTHS of speculation that the former couple have rekindled their romance once more after splitting in February 2019 following a cheating scandal involving Kylie Jenner‘s ex-BFF Jordyn Woods, as well as video evidence of cheating with other women.

Though Khloé didn’t exactly comment on her relationship status, she DID reaffirm that co-parenting is their priority during a recent sit-down with People, saying:

“So many people don’t understand it, but I lead with love and we put our child first. If you have that mindset, everything else follows easily. We have a family together. Don’t make it more difficult by dragging your feet. This is going to be forever, so we want to make it the best that we can.”

The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star also put her heart on her sleeve, candidly sharing:

“Tristan and I needed that time to heal and I needed time to go through my emotions. But now he’s literally one of my best friends. A lot of that has been because of quarantine. We spend a lot of time together with no distractions, and seeing him as a dad and how helpful he is, I’m so grateful. Especially during this time because it’s such an isolating time. I’m really grateful for that support and that additional help.”

She also explained that much of the reason she’s been able to positively co-parent her toddler with the NBA star is because of the examples she’s seen in her own life, namely that of her parents and stepfather:

“Having my parents and seeing how seamlessly it seemed that they did it, we never knew anything negative. I’m sure it was difficult for them too but we never knew anything negative. My stepdad and my dad would play golf would play golf once a week and my dad would come over for dinner once a week and to my little sisters, that was their uncle Robert [Kardashian]. We were very close and it was all led with love.”

As long as True is the focus, that’s what matters!! Let’s just hope their relationship can stay strong and, well, true, if they are getting this serious again…

Trini Lopez, Singer and Actor in ‘The Dirty Dozen,’ Dies of COVID-19 at 83

Trini Lopez, the pop singer and guitarist who also acted in Robert Aldrich’s “The Dirty Dozen,” died Tuesday of complications from COVID-19.

Palm Springs Life magazine first reported his death; he was a longtime resident of the desert enclave. Filmmakers P. David Ebersole and Todd Hughes had recently completed a documentary about his life, which was featured in the magazine.

Born Trinidad Lopez III in Dallas, Texas, his parents were both from Mexico. Lopez started playing in bands at 15 and in 1958, his group the Big Beats signed with Columbia Records after recording with Buddy Holly producer Norman Petty. Lopez went solo shortly afterward and signed with King Records, for whom he released a series of unsuccessful singles before leaving the label in 1962. He soon scored a residency at the Los Angeles nightclub PJ’s, where Frank Sinatra saw his show and signed him to his Reprise Records in 1963.

That year, his debut album, “Trini Lopez at PJ’s,” included a cover of “If I Had a Hammer” that was a global smash, topping the charts in multiple countries and reaching No. 3 in the U.S. Another live album followed, along with more hits over the next several years, including “Lemon Tree,” “I’m Comin’ Home, Cindy,” “Sally Was a Good Old Girl,” “Michael,” “Gonna Get Along Without Ya’ Now” and “The Bramble Bush.”

He starred in the 1967 fictional World War II film “The Dirty Dozen” alongside such stars as Charles Bronson, Ernest Borgnine, John Cassavetes, Lee Marvin, Donald Sutherland and Telly Savalas, but was more recognizable than many of them at the time because of his successful musical career. Lopez also appeared on television in “Adam-12” and “The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries.” During the height of his popularity in the mid-1960s, he designed two guitars for the Gibson Guitar company which are collector’s items.

While his chart successes and acting roles tailed off after the 1960s, he continued to release albums and perform regularly — particularly in Las Vegas and his adopted home of Palm Springs. He was awarded a star on Palm Springs’ Walk of Stars in 1993 and on Las Vegas’ Walk of Stars in 2008.

Information on survivors was not immediately available.

Casper Mattresses Are Totally Heaven Sent

We love these products, and we hope you do too. E! has affiliate relationships, so we may get a small share of the revenue from your purchases. Items are sold by the retailer, not E!.

Four years ago, we went on the hunt for a new mattress. And after doing extensive research, we settled on a Casper.

But then we thought about it a while more, and debated it, and made a big mistake: we opted for a competitor brand.

Why would we do such a thing? Because we thought all online mattress-in-a-box companies were the same, and we figured it wouldn’t make that big a difference to go with one that saved us a few hundred dollars. But after a few months of sleeping on the wannabe mattress, we realized the error of our ways… and felt it, courtesy of the aches and pains in our necks, shoulders and backs.

So when it came time to upgrade our mattress this year, we didn’t make the same mistake twice. This time, we got a Casper Nova Hybrid. And even though we’ve only been sleeping on it for a few weeks, we’re pretty sure this is what heaven feels like.
