Facebook to showcase music videos after inking deal with record labels

Published

on

Facebook has inked deals with music giants that will let its billions of users watch hit music videos alongside viral cat clips and political rants, the company said Friday.

Official music videos from artists such as Nicki Minaj, Bob Marley and the Jonas Brothers will go live on the social network Saturday thanks to Facebook’s new partnerships with labels including Sony Music Group, Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group and BMG.

They will live in a dedicated section of the Facebook Watch video platform featuring new and popular videos along with playlists like “Hip Hop MVPs” and “Epic Dance Videos,” the social-media giant said. Users can react to, comment on and share the clips just like any other video on Facebook, company officials said.

“Official music videos on Facebook are about more than just watching a video,” Vijaye Raji, Facebook’s vice president of entertainment, said in a statement. “They’re about social experiences from discovering new artists with friends to connecting more deeply with artists and people you love.”

Facebook will also host exclusive video premieres in the coming weeks from artists including Colombian reggaeton stars J. Balvin and Karol G. The company did not disclose details of its partnerships with music firms, but it said it’s working with independent publishers as well as large conglomerates.

The effort comes as Facebook-owned Instagram reportedly prepares to launch Reels, a short-form video app built to rival TikTok, which has skyrocketed new artists like rapper Lil Nas X to mainstream fame.

Music videos are also among the most popular content on Google-owned YouTube. The video for Luis Fonsi’s 2017 song “Despacito” is the platform’s most-watched clip ever with more than 6.8 billion views.

Facebook cast the launch as a “natural next step” in its efforts to help artists find opportunities and connect with fans. The platform already allows users to add background music to their own videos, while artists have used augmented-reality filters and Facebook Live broadcasts to promote their work.

MOVIES

The major studio will screen ‘Ghostbusters,’ ‘The Karate Kid,’ ‘Men in Black’ and other library titles on its Culver City parking lot starting this weekend.

With cinemas shut down or operating with reduced capacity during the coronavirus pandemic, Sony Pictures plans to host socially distant drive-in screenings of classic titles like Ghostbusters and The Karate Kid on its studio lot in Culver City.

The makeshift drive-in will be erected in the Thalberg parking lot on the historic studio lot, and will start showcasing library titles on Aug. 14.

Tristar Pictures/Stage 6 Films romantic comedy The Broken Hearts Gallery, executive produced by Selena Gomez, will also get the drive-in treatment on the studio lot.

Sony bought The Broken Hearts Gallery for less than $10 million after the pandemic had begun and a separate theatrical release is also planned.

Sony Pictures’ drive-in movies will screen on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, and the outdoor theater will host around 75 cars. The price of admission will be $30 per car, and tickets will be bought via Atom Tickets.

Other Sony Pictures titles to screen outdoors on the studio lot include Baby Driver, Jumanji: The Next Level, Don’t Breathe, Bloodshot and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Kanye West is Most Definitely Colluding with Donald Trump to Defeat Joe Biden

Published

on

We hate to break this to his ardent supporters, but:

Kanye West is not actually running for President.

Yes, we know what the rapper has said about his alleged Oval Office aspirations.

But here’s the thing: He got into the race too late and missed the deadline to get on the ballot of numerous states.

He, quite literally, has no path to 270 electoral votes and, just as a matter of fact, cannot amass the number of votes needed to defeat Joe Biden and Donald Trump.

So… what the heck is Kanye doing? Is he simply seeking attention?

We wish.

Kanye West Smiles! Wow!

Instead, at this point, it seems impossible to deny that Kanye is running purely to take away votes from Biden and make sure that his good pal, Trump, is re-elected.

According to a new article in Forbes, West talks on a near-daily basis to Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and an official White House advisor.

“I love Jared. I was just… that’s my boy, you know? That’s really my boy. So I prefer to not drop his name,” Kanye has said of the polarizing figure, Forbes reports.

The New York Times, meanwhile, confirms that West and Kushner met in person in Colorado this past weekend.

Kim and Kanye Call It Quits

West acknowledged the Telluride rendezvous on Twitter.

But he claimed the two simply talked about 2000 Black empowerment book PowerNomics by Dr. Claud Anderson.

Which… sure, Kanye. Whatever you say, dude.

West, of course, has been spotted numerous times in a Make America Great Hat.

He also met with Trump in the Oval Office back in October 2018, while Kanye’s wife, Kim Kardashian, has also met with the President and worked with him to help release a drug offender from prison in Alabama.

Recent reports have indicated that Kanye is receiving help from GOP operatives to file petitions and try to get on the ballot in several states, including the battleground of Wisconsin.

This has prompted speculation that the artist is trying to siphon Black votes from Biden to assist Trump.

Kimye 2020

Back in 2016, Trump partly defeated Hillary Clinton because a third party candidate (which West is running as) earned just enough votes in states such as Michigan to swing the election toward Trump.

Asked point blank by Forbes last week if he was purposely working to undermine the Democratic nominee, West said he is “not denying it” and that he is “walking,” rather than running, for president.

Translation?

Kanye knows he can’t win.

But he also knows he can deny a Biden victory.

Kanye in 2020

Kanye, of course, has been in the news of late for a new set of rantings and ravings.

These have included the revelation that he wanted to abort daughter North West, along with other very personal details, leading Kim to consider a divorce.

As far as we know, she may still be considering this option, although the couple may have reconciled during a vacation this week.

A Kiss for Kim

The West campaign, meanwhile, is facing questions of electoral fraud.

Shocking, right?!?

In Illinois, his native state, the stra’s petition was challenged because more than half of his 2,500 required signatures weren’t valid.

He then ran into similar issues in New Jersey, where he withdrew his petition after over 700 suspicious signatures were questioned by an elections attorney.

“It was so clearly deficient that it wasn’t even worth defending,” lawyer Scott Salmon said of West’s petition, adding:

“I wish it wouldn’t have gotten this far.”

We all have this wish, Scott.

The Cribs – “Running Into You”

Published

on

The Cribs, the British power trio made up of brothers Gary, Ryan, and Ross Jarman, have announced a new album called Night Network. The follow-up to 2017’s Steve Albini-engineered 24-7 Rock Star Shit was recorded and self-produced at Foo Fighters Studio 606 in Los Angeles after 18 months of legal limbo following a split from their longtime management. And today they’re sharing its lead single, the fuzzed-out rocker “Running Into You,” which comes with a music video co-directed by Andy Knowles and Nick Scott and featuring actor Sam Riley.

“Well, we’ve been gone for the last couple of years, so we wanted to channel the spirit of the inevitable ‘Cribs-mania’ which we are sure the news of our comeback will precipitate…hence the full on “media takeover” theme of the video,” the Cribs explain. “It was great to work with Sam again, our relationship with him goes all the way back to our very first headline tour which we undertook along with his band 10,000 Things — and we have considered him part of the family ever since. It’s an honor to have him involved.” Watch and listen below.
