John Boyega Bails on Jo Malone After Being Cut from Cologne Commercial

John Boyega has officially stepped down as a brand ambassador for Jo Malone. The decision comes several days after it was revealed that the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker actor was cut from an ad for the fragrance in China. The ad was originally created by Boyega, who was replaced by Liu Haoran for the Chinese version, which didn’t feature any Black actors. As a result, Boyega is cutting ties with the company.

The announcement was made by John Boyega on Twitter. In a thread, the 28-year-old filmmaker explained that he feels the way Jo Malone handled the situation was wrong. Here’s what Boyega had to say about it.

“I have decided to step down as Jo Malone’s global ambassador. When I joined the brand as their first male global ambassador last year, I created the short film we used to launch the campaign. It won the Fragrance Foundation Virtual awards 2020 for Best Media Campaign. Their decision to replace my campaign in China by using my concepts and substituting a local brand ambassador for me, without either my consent or prior notice, was wrong. The film celebrated my personal story, showcasing my hometown, including my friends and featuring my family.”

The original version of the video, titled London Gent, features John Boyega walking through the neighborhood in London where he grew up. He is also seen riding a white horse and dancing at a party. The same concept was recycled by the fragrance brand for the Chinese ad without Boyega’s knowledge or consent. Speaking further, Boyega had this to add.

“While many brands understandably use a variety of global and local ambassadors, dismissively trading out one’s culture this way is not something I can condone. It’s back to back but I assure you this will be dealt with swiftly. I don’t have time for nonsense. We press on and strong. Stay blessed people.”

Estee Lauder owns Jo Malone. The company previously apologized to John Boyega, who is best known for his work as Finn in the Star Wars franchise. That was not enough to repair the damage. Taking to Twitter, Jo Malone issued the following statement in the wake of Boyega’s decision.

“John Boyega is an incredible talent, artist and person and we were proud to have him as part of our Jo Malone London family. We respect John’s decision and we wish him all the best.”

John Boyega has demonstrated that he is nothing if not principled and outspoken. He appeared at a Black Lives Matter protest earlier this year, despite vocalizing concern that it might damage his career. Though many prominent figures in Hollywood came to his defense and expressed a desire to work with him. Boyega also recently criticized Disney’s handling of characters like Finn and Rose in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. The actor will next be seen in the TV miniseries Small Axe. Vanessa Bryant Delivers FURIOUS Response To Mother’s Claims She Was Kicked Out Of The House!

The last thing Vanessa Bryant needs is family drama.

It’s been less than a year since her husband Kobe Bryant and daughter Gianna Bryant passed away under shocking and tragic circumstances. Undoubtedly the family still needs all the support they can get — and yet Vanessa’s mother Sofia Laine appears to be doing the opposite.

Laine sat for an interview with Univision‘s El Gorda y La Flaca, where she seemed to center the tragedy around herself. She told interviewer David Valadez she was being dropped by her daughter in the wake of Kobe’s passing, claiming:

“[Vanessa] told me, ‘I need you to get out of this house.’ She also told me that she wanted her car and she wants it now.”

Well, Vanessa isn’t going to stand for that.

She released a statement to Univision responding to her mother’s shocking accusations. She wrote:

“My husband and daughter passed away unexpectedly, and yet my mother had the audacity to do a television interview speaking negatively of me while shedding tears for a car and a house that were not in her name.”

Oof! Can’t say we blame her for these fiery words. Having your mom call you out over finances on television would be difficult regardless, but on top of the fact that the family is still grieving… well, it’s not a good look for Laine, to say the least.

Speaking specifically to her mother’s appearance and surroundings in the interview, Vanessa accused her mother of essentially trying to trick viewers to get sympathy:

“She has removed all her diamond jewelry, emptied the apartment I provided, and put away the furniture to make it look like she doesn’t have my support. My husband and I have supported her financially for the past 20 years, and continue to do so, in addition to her monthly alimony.”

Wow. She concluded:

“Contrary to previous reports, she has not been physically present or emotionally supportive of my daughters and me after my husband and daughter passed away. Now I see what is most important to my mother and it’s more than painful. I hope that everything that is coming out about our personal relationship ends here.”

That was one heck of a response. It seems they may be in an even worse place than we thought!

Back in February, an Us Weekly source said Laine was Vanessa’s “rock” throughout the tragedy — apparently, that source had things very wrong. Still, it’s unclear what exactly happened that caused such serious damage in this mother-daughter relationship. We’re more inclined to give Vanessa the benefit of the doubt here considering the extraordinary emotional distress she must still be under while her mom airs out their private business to the press.

The mom of four is already waging a legal battle against the helicopter company involved in her loved ones’ deaths, and a political push for greater safety measures that could have protected them. She really shouldn’t have to deal with a family feud on top of all that.

We hope this issue comes to some resolution that grants the Bryant family peace.

What do YOU think of all this, Perezcious readers??

Selena Gomez to co-lead and produce Hotel Transylvania 4

Selena Gomez is getting ready to sink her fangs into a new role when Sony Pictures Animation presents the fourth chapter of its Hotel Transylvania film series. In addition to reprising her role as Dracula’s practical and effervescent daughter, Mavis, Gomez will also serve as an executive producer for the forthcoming sequel.

HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 4 will be directed by Jennifer Klushka and Derek Drymon from a screenplay written by franchise creator Genndy Tartakovsky, who will also executive produce, alongside Michelle Murdocca. Originally, Tartakovsky was slated to helm the fourth installment of his family-friendly franchise before Klushka and Drymon took over.

The Hotel Transylvania franchise has scared up over $1.3 billion at the worldwide box office to date, thanks to three films and a spin-off series. The franchise introduces audience members to Dracula (Adam Sandler), who operates a high-end resort away from the human world. Throughout the course of the series, Dracula, his friends, and members of his immediate family get up to all manner of spooky shenanigans, making for a monster mash that’s fun for every boy and ghoul in the graveyard.

While many monsters have passed through the hallowed halls of Drac’s hotel, Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, Kevin James, Fran Drescher, Steve Buscemi, Molly Shannon, David Spade are considered to be among the franchise’s main players. While the full cast for the sequel has yet to be confirmed, it’s to be hoped that all of the aforementioned stars will return for Tartakovsky’s next animated monster mash.

Plot details for the new film are scarce at this time, but we’ll be sure to update you as soon as we know more.
