Naomi Osaka’s Post-Workout Smoothie Recipe

Published

on

I did this thing when I was younger where, as soon as movie credits started cascading down the screen, I’d pretend I had transformed into my favorite character from the film (badass gymnast Haley Graham in Stick It, Belle in Beaty and the Beast, The Hunger Games‘s Katniss Everdeen). That’s why I was slightly disappointed when I didn’t magically emulate tennis powerhouse Naomi Osaka after I gave her post-workout smoothie a taste test. I mean, I’d done the prep work and everything — even lifted my way through an early-morning 30-minute strength session thanks to Peloton.

Alas, I didn’t gain the agility, speed, and competitiveness Osaka showcases on the court. Nor did said tennis court transport itself into my backyard with the 2020 US Open trophy waiting for me by the net. What I did get, though, was a pretty damn good smoothie.

After Osaka sweats it out, her drink consists of spinach, cucumber, ginger, pineapple or apples (or both), lemon juice, BodyArmor Lyte, and, of course, protein powder. I didn’t use the exact BodyArmor drink that Osaka uses — I could only get my hands on BodyArmor Lyte Peach Mango instead of the BodyArmor Lyte Coconut or Tropical Coconut that she prefers. But, Osaka still lists Peach Mango as one of her favorite flavors, so it felt appropriate.

When blended, the smoothie tastes fresh from the greens, semi tropical from the pineapple (though it would have been more tropical-tasting if I’d added the BodyArmor Lyte Coconut), and somewhat sweet. Plus, there’s a modest kick from the ginger. Through the crispness came an unidentifiable aftertaste (not horrible, but not wonderful), though by making a batch without the protein powder afterward, I later figured out that the aftertaste was a result of the vanilla bean protein powder I had mixed in.

The vanilla bean flavor was the best I could find in my house for this recipe — my other choice was chocolate (can you imagine?!) — and although the smoothie was still good with the powder blended in, it was better when the powder, my powder, was not. It’s for this reason that I suggest using a flavorless protein powder so you can really get the freshness from the fruits and veggies.

I tried and tried again with the perseverance, I dare say, of Osaka. She knows how to rally after a loss. After all, she was the first woman since 1994 to come back after losing the first set of a US Open final. We’ll toast to her with this post-workout smoothie — find the ingredients and directions ahead.

Naomi Osaka's Post-Workout Smoothie Recipe

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup spinach (the more the better)
    1/2 cup diced cucumber
    Handful of apples and/or pineapples
    1/2 fresh-squeezed lemon
8 oz BodyArmor Lyte Coconut or Tropical Coconut
1 tablespoon protein powder (I suggest plain or a flavor that’s fruity)
    1 tablespoon ginger
    2 to 3 ice cubes

Directions

  • Gather your ingredients.
  • Cut up the cucumber, apples, and pineapples and place them in the blender.
  • Add ginger (I just cut off a piece of raw ginger and used that without the skin) and spinach.
  • Squeeze the juice from half of a lemon, and add the BodyArmor and protein powder. Lastly, add ice.
  • Blend everything until combined evenly.
  • Enjoy!

You can find an estimation of the nutritional information for this smoothie below. However, know that this is only an approximation and does not include the eight ounces of BodyArmor Lyte (per serving, the one I used only has 20 calories and two grams of sugar). The nutrition facts will also vary depending on what protein powder you use.

Lala Kent and Randall Emmett Announce Baby’s Gender in Epic, Slightly Insane Reveal

Lala Kent and Randall Emmett’s impending baby sure knows how to make an entrance.

Before he or she is even born.

On Saturday, the vetern Vanderpump Rules star and her fiance, who announced last month they were expecting their first child together, revealed this child’s gender.

In rather unique fashion.

The 30-year old did so by sharing footage on Instagram of a skydiver touching down from above in a pink parachute.

So there we have it, huh?

“We are having a baby GIRL!” the Bravo personality wrote as a caption to the video.

Emmett, who is the dad to two daughters of his own (10-year-old London and 6-year-old Rylee) from a previous relationship, shared the same footage.

And sounded equally psyched about the little girl to come.

“WE ARE HAVING A GIRL!!!” he wrote.

In the footage, a skydiver, who was attached to a pink parachute and large pink ribbon, lands on a grass field just as Lala, Randall and their friends cheer and applaud.

“Oh my god!” Lala said, prior to embracing Randall, who then exclaimed, “I told you!”

The podcast host was joined by several of her Vanderpump Rules co-stars and acquaintance for the breaking news, including former star Stassi Schroeder.

Stassi, who is also pregnant and expecting a baby girl herself, posted a video of Lala’s memorable reaction to the gender confirmation.

“We have little baby girls coming! I hope they do better at life than us,” wrote Schroeder along with this clip on her Instagram page.

Give Them Lala

Later in the day, Kent shared a photo on her Instagram Story of a sign that read as follows:

“Give them a girl…with Lala & Randall. I’m in love with you already, and I can’t wait to be your mama.”

Kent and Emmett announced they were expecting earlier this month on an episode of their podcast, Give Them Lala … with Randall.

“I’m, like, shaking right now because I can’t believe that it’s a real-life thing. I cry about everything but today it’s very much happy tears,” said Kent at the time.

“For my 30th birthday I have the best gift given to me, my body also helped out too, I am pregnant,” she then revealed before cheers were heard in the background and Emmett shouted:

“Lala Kent, a soon to be mother!”

A clearly overwhelmed Lala then added:

“I am and I’m so excited. I feel very maternal and motherly.”

The reality TV star and her producer boyfriend have been dating since 2017.

They got engaged in September 2018 and battled through numerous break-up rumors before dropping their huge baby bombshell.

The pair were going to get married this past April, but then Covid-19 hit and, well…

“We have decided to move the date of our wedding to July given the unfortunate circumstances of what is going on,” they previously told People Magazine in an exclusive statement.

“We are obviously saddened by this but for the ultimate safety of our families and guests, we have made the decision to wait and see how everything progresses.

“Safety will always be our number one priority.”

Aimee Mann – “Avalanche” (Leonard Cohen Cover)

Published

Aimee Mann covered Leonard Cohen’s “Avalanche” for the theme music of HBO’s I’ll Be Gone In The Dark. The show is a documentary about Michelle McNamara, the true-crime author (and Patton Oswalt’s wife) whose posthumous book of the same name detailed her investigation into the Golden State Killer. McNamara died in 2016 of an accidental overdose on prescription meds compounded by an undiagnosed heart condition, and the Golden State Killer was finally caught in 2018 — thanks in part to her research.

“My husband, Michael Penn, and I had been close friends with Patton and Michelle for many years and were very familiar with the ups and downs of her research,” Mann says. “We were completely devastated by her death. I was incredibly moved by Patton’s dedication to getting her book finished and was so happy when he reached out about recording a version of ‘Avalanche’ for the show. Michael produced and recorded it at home, and we were both honored to hear it at the start of every episode.”

We already posted about Mann’s cover of “Avalanache” when I’ll Be Gone In The Dark premiered, but the show only used a brief excerpt of the track in its opening credit sequence. Now, though, Mann has released her full version of the song, and you can listen to it below.

Earlier this week, Demi posted and deleted some scantily clad pics and spoke about her love life in the caption of the post. It’s unclear if Instagram deemed her pics too racy for the platform or if she wasn’t ready to be so open with her fans.

“She’ll love when she’s ready 🧡,” she captioned her post.

The caption makes it seem that she is not currently looking for love and that she is focusing on herself and we think that is the best thing to do. In fact, that’s when love strikes! Her followers were quick to let her know that she has options.

”I’m ready to love,” one impressed fan commented while another said, “A thriving, happy, beautiful queen👑 i love it 💗.”

“My forever crush 💖✨🌸,” a third follower wrote. “in love with your style🔥🌷.”
