Noomi Rapace on Avoiding Sugar, Alcohol, and Added Adrenaline

Published

on

Noomi Rapace, the original Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, is known for intense performances and physical transformations. For her new film The Secrets We Keep, in which she plays a 1950s housewife in search of revenge, she went into full Noomi Rapace mode.

Joel Kinnaman co-stars in the film, directed by Yuval Adler, about European survivors of World War II and the Holocaust whose paths cross again in the United States.

“I don’t want to be pretty. I want to be real. I think it was Joel Kinnaman who said to me at one point he was like, ‘I guess it’s not a Noomi character if you don’t look like shit in the end. I was like, mm-hmm,‘” she tells host Jenny Curtis in the latest Hollywood Unscripted podcast, available on Apple, Spotify and Stitcher.

“One day, Jenny, I’m going to look flawless and be beautiful,” Rapace adds. “But like since day one… I always felt like, why do we women and girls need to be pretty and likable and sweet and adorable and approachable? Why can’t we just be fully humans with all our flaws and all our brokenness and anger and aggression and whatever it is.”

Rapace described her regimen for the film, a six-week shoot.

“I work out once or twice a day. I’m very strict with my diet when I’m working. So I don’t want to go on a sugar rush rollercoaster because it just messes up my whole system. I’m very disciplined. I don’t drink alcohol. I don’t go out. I can’t really put myself in situations where I feel like I add adrenaline to myself. It’s strange, my own discipline and my own mind is probably my strongest tool,” she said. “So I always stick, I almost build up like walls that I could bounce back on. So in the end of the day, I go to the gym, no matter what, and I will sweat out the character. I will take a bath, Epsom salt and ice bath, I go between them. And then I go to bed and I listen to music before or after in the mornings and in the evenings.”

A Wild Bach Rumour Claims Locky Is Rejected By His Finale Pick & Has To Choose The Other Gal

Published

I’m not a The Bachelor enthusiast at all. In fact, I don’t even watch the show or any of the franchises. It’s just not my cup of tea. However, I count the first and last episode of any Aussie Bachelor season among my favourite television events of the year. A little joint, a lot of snacks, a televised rejection (or two, thanks for that one Honey Badger) = feeling waayy less shitty about my own trainwreck of a love life – heaven!

And after hearing an eyebrow-raising rumour about how the latest Bachie season staring Survivor contestant Locky Gilbert is going to end, I’m more excited to feel good about myself than ever.

I hope you are thirsty because here is the juice: Daily Mail has received some insider intel that:

1) Locky gets rejected by the winner he picks, and:

2) He begs the runner-up he rejected to take him back.

Actual footage of Locky mid finale.

So if rumour has it, Locky first rejects Irena and picks Bella to be his sweet bae for life. But Bella, pulls out, saying she can’t be in a relationship with him because she can’t stand that he also has feelings for Irena. (Serious question: Did Bella know what she was signing up for? Let me know. Ty. You all keep me young.)

So Locky, (single man of about 30 seconds) gets back in touch with Irena and asks her to be the winner by default. She kind of says yes and Bob’s your uncle – Bachie #done. Reminds me of getting rejected from the person you wanted to take to the formal and then sheepishly accepting an invitation you previously turned down. True romance, no?

It’s important to remind you that the above is a rumour, so I’m not making any promises. But if you go back and watch the trailer, it does make sense. He openly admits he is in love with both of the final girls.

Locky Gilbert

And the painfully frustrated “Fucking hell” whilst crying uncontrollably makes sense too.

Mmmm. Other people’s misfortune. Om nom nom.

The So Dramatic! podcast discussed this very rumour this morning and claims they are false. “There is no plot twist of this nature,” host Megan Pustetto said. However, she promises just as much juice: “There is a huge drama that goes down in the finale which explains why Bella is so bitter towards Irena now and why their friendship has soured for good. It’s explosive.”

Can’t wait to watch Osher‘s best sympathy face in any case.

Avril Lavigne Lines Up Lyme Disease Livestream Benefit Show

Avril Lavigne announced a livestream benefit concert for October 24th at 8 p.m. ET, helping raise awareness and funds in the fight against Lyme disease. Full proceeds from the virtual event — described on the singer’s site as the “only chance” to see her perform in 2020 — will support the Avril Lavigne Foundation and Global Lyme Alliance.

Tickets, along with merch bundles and VIP soundcheck passes, are now on sale.

“I’m so excited for fans and friends from all over the world to join me and my very special guests for #FightLyme, which will benefit the Lyme community,” Lavigne said in a statement. “It’s going to be an evening to remember full of hope, great music and exciting surprises!”

Lavigne has battled Lyme herself: She revealed her diagnosis in 2015, noting that she contracted the disease from a tick bite the previous spring; in a January 2020 Instagram post shouting out Justin Bieber, who’d announced his own diagnosis, she wrote, “For the better part of two years, I was really sick and fighting for my life.”

“The bad days still come and go,” she continued, adding that writing her sixth LP, 2019’s Head Above Water, helped her “get through the worst of it.”

The singer’s foundation assists people with Lyme, serious illnesses or disabilities — providing prevention resources, funding treatment grants and advancing scientific research. Global Lyme Alliance funds research, offers awareness programs and supports patients and caregivers.

In April, Lavigne joined a crew of fellow Canadian artists — including Bieber, Rush’s Geddy Lee, Bryan Adams, Michael Bublé, Sarah McLachlan and Buffy Sainte-Marie — to cover Bill Withers’ “Lean on Me” during the television special and livestream Stronger Together, Tous Ensemble, which raised money for Food Banks Canada amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Michael Jordan, Denny Hamlin Start Nascar Team With Driver Bubba Wallace

Michael Jordan is branching off into a new sport — racecar driving.

Jordan and Nascar driver Denny Hamlin, who is represented by Jordan Brand, have announced that they are launching a single-car Nascar team for the 2021 Cup Series with Bubba Wallace as their driver.

Jordan’s manager, Estee Portnoy, shared a statement from him on Twitter in which he explains the reasoning for the new sports venture.

“Growing up in North Carolina, my parents would take my brothers, sisters and me to races, and I’ve been a Nascar fan my whole life,” Jordan wrote. “Historically, Nascar has struggled with diversity and there have been few Black owners. The timing seemed perfect as Nascar is evolving and embracing social change more and more. In addition to the recent commitment and donations I have made to combat systemic racism, I see this as a chance to educate a new audience and open more opportunities for Black people in racing.”

Hamlin also announced the team via Twitter, saying that choosing Wallace as their driver was an easy decision.

“[Bubba] deserves the opportunity to compete for race wins and our team will make sure he has the resources to do just that,” Hamlin wrote. “Off the track, Bubba has been a loud voice for change in our sport and our country. MJ and I support him fully in those efforts and stand beside him.”

Wallace made headlines in June when he called on Nascar to ban the Confederate flag from races in the wake of George Floyd’s death. A few weeks later, a noose was found in Wallace’s garage. Although the FBI later determined that Wallace was not the victim of a hate crime, Nascar is now requiring all personnel to undergo sensitivity and unconscious bias training.

Wallace also expressed his gratitude for the opportunity on social media, writing: “This is a unique, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I believe is a great fit for me at this point in my career. I’m grateful and humbled that they believe in me and I’m super pumped to begin this adventure with them.”
