‘Train to Busan’, the critically acclaimed Korean zombie thriller film directed by Yeon Sang-Ho is getting a sequel titled ‘Peninsula’. The first trailer for the second installment has dropped and it looks absolutely riveting.
The story picks up four years later, from where the story in ‘Train to Busan’ was left off. The city is now in complete ruins. It is the aftermath of the annihilation, giving off the dramatic dark and apocalyptic vibe. The name of the sequel comes from the Korean peninsula, which in the film shows barely any signs of civilization.
The story pans in on the survival of the fittest — a struggle between those who survived in the land following all that transpired aboard the train, the zombies and the human savages. The trailer packs a promise of wide-scale zombie action.
‘Peninsula’ stars Kang Dong-Won of ‘A Violent Prosecutor’ fame and ‘A Petal’ alum Lee Jung-Hyun in the lead role. The trailer sees Kang’s Jung Suk arriving in the ravaged city, armed, to investigate. Jung Suk and some of the survivors cautiously navigate through what’s left of the city and make a staggering discovery — the living dead are still on the streets.
He is seen pointing his gun at a large suspicious-looking box of sorts when the glassy exterior clears up and he realizes that it is filled to the brim with zombies. Zombies that for some peculiar reason, have developed a tolerance to sunlight and developed advanced hearing senses, while humans have had to cower for safety and resort to a filthier lifestyle. Besides the zombies, there are cannibalistic and bloodthirsty humans that are also a huge threat.
Another scene in the trailer focuses on a group of shirtless men in a fight cage, being revved on to battle by a mass of cheering humans. They prepare themselves for the onslaught of their opponents only to flee when they realize that they will be fighting against a band of stronger and agile zombies.
Ardent fans of ‘Train to Busan’ are all geared up for the upcoming sequel. Many loyal fans emotionally expressed how they couldn’t wait for the movie to premiere.
“So #TrainToBusan sequel is coming! #Peninsula I’m ready for you to bless our screens,” one Twitter user said.
Another recalled her emotional experience with ‘Train to Busan’ in her tweet: “#Peninsula looks so dope and scary as hell compared to #TrainToBusan but the ending had me in tears in Busan.”
“If you haven’t watched the first #TrainToBusan then I HIGHLY recommend doing so. Because now, the sequel is coming!! Holy shit I can not wait. Nobody does zombies like this! Seriously the storyline, details, everything! #Peninsula,” this hardcore fan urges her fellow film-enthusiasts to take a chance with the zombie thriller.
“#Peninsula trailer got me like. I know this movie is gonna be fire #TrainToBusan,” another quips, excitedly.
‘Peninsula’ looks very much like its preceding blockbuster action film, and is slated to be out this summer.
