Saturday Night Live Taps Jim Carrey to Join Season 46 as Joe Biden

Published

on

Saturday Night Live has elected to make a major casting change: Jim Carrey will take over the role of Vice President Joe Biden in Season 46, succeeding Jason Sudeikis. The recasting comes with the presidential election — pitting Biden against incumbent POTUS Donald Trump — less than two months away.

“There was some interest on his part,” EP Lorne Michaels tells Vulture of Carrey. “And then we responded, obviously, positively. But it came down to discussions about what the take was. He and [head writer/cast member] Colin Jost had a bunch of talks. He and I as well.”

Michaels also confirmed that Alec Baldwin will be back as Trump, with Maya Rudolph set to once again play Biden’s running mate Kamala Harris.

Additionally, SNL has added three new featured players — improv vets Lauren Holt, Punkie Johnson and Andrew Dismukes — to the cast.

Season 46 will premiere on Saturday, Oct. 3, and it will do so from its signature Studio 8H stomping ground as well as with a “limited in-studio audience.” SNL will kick off its new season with five consecutive shows.

The premiere will mark SNL‘s first in-studio episode since March 7. Three non-live, at-home, COVID-safe installments closed out Season 45.

As we reported earlier this week, SNL‘s entire ensemble — including Kate McKinnon — will be back for Season 46.

Rooting for Rue. Zendaya won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role in Euphoria at the 2020 Emmys on Sunday, September 20.

“Thank you to the TV Academy and to all the other incredible women in this category. I admire you all so much. This is pretty crazy,” she said during her acceptance speech. “To the incredible cast and crew of Euphoria, I’m so lucky to go to work with you every day, and I’m inspired by everything you do. … I know this feels like a really weird time to be celebrating, but I just want to say that there is hope in the young people.”

The 24-year-old actress broke the record set by Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer in 2019 as the youngest star to take home the top honor in the drama category. Comer was 26 when she accepted the trophy over her costar Sandra Oh. Both women were nominated again in 2020, alongside Jennifer Aniston (The Morning Show), Olivia Colman (The Crown) and Laura Linney (Ozark).

Back in July, Zendaya wrote that she was “speechless” as she learned of her nomination for her role as Rue Bennett on the HBO hit.

“My heart is just overflowing with love and gratitude. I’m so incredibly honored to work beside the talented people that I get to call family. I am a small piece of a big beautiful puzzle and I’m so proud of all of you,” the Disney alum wrote at the time via Instagram. “Thank you to everyone out there who’s watched and given our show life, thank you @samlev00 @hbo @a24 for everything and @televisionacad for this beautiful acknowledgment, thank you, thank you, thank you. We out here Emmy nominated y’all!!”

Euphoria was up for six Emmys, including Outstanding Contemporary Costume, Outstanding Music Composition for a Series and Outstanding Music Supervision. In addition to Zendaya’s win, the show won Outstanding Contemporary Makeup and Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics.

While production on season 2 of Euphoria was suspended in March amid the coronavirus pandemic, the cast, which also includes Hunter Schafer, Jacob Elordi, Barbie Ferreira, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, Maude Apatow and Eric Dane, returned to work earlier this month.

Kim Kardashian Is “Deeply Disappointed” by Kanye West’s Recent “Downward Spiral”

  • Kim Kardashian is saddened by husband Kanye West’s current mental state.
  • Kanye’s health has deteriorated during the coronavirus pandemic.

Kim Kardashian is standing by Kanye West through the good and the bad. Lately, Kanye’s mental health seems to be deteriorating and it’s taking a toll on Kim, Us Weekly reports. They have recently been more open about Kanye’s bipolar disorder diagnosis and how it affects his behavior and their family dynamic.

“She is deeply disappointed and sad because Kanye is struggling,” a source told Us Weekly. “It’s a vicious cycle that Kim has had success at interrupting successfully for months at a time.”

This content is imported from Instagram. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

However, Kim “isn’t surprised” that Kanye hasn’t been “abiding to terms of his care plan” that they agreed upon and she thinks that the coronavirus pandemic is contributing to his recent “downward spiral.” The insider added that “being isolated and alone essentially in his head isn’t healthy” for him.

Kanye’s recently gone on Twitter rants, making surprising announcements like his attempt to run for president, his goal to get Taylor Swift’s masters back, and that he’s breaking his partnership with Adidas. But, the source says that’s not what’s bothering Kim. “She doesn’t care about the tweets, that is Kanye being Kanye,” the source said, adding that it’s “the mood swings and the manic episodes [that] are extremely difficult for Kim to help Kanye cope with.”

In August, People sources indicated that they are living separately—with Kim in Los Angeles and Kanye in Wyoming. An insider said at the time, “Kim still seems focused on making her marriage work. She is pretty quiet about her exact plans for the future, but for now, she seems okay with Kanye living in Wyoming.”

Kay, So Does the Royal Family Watch ‘The Crown’?

Published

on

By

The Crown season 4 is nearly here! And, well, if you’ve watched any of the previous seasons, you know the royals don’t always come off looking that great. At this point, I should mention that spoilers for The Crown’s third season are about to come atcha, but also, this entire show is based on literal history, so ¯_(ツ)_/¯. (Side note: If you’re in love with Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip, please join my support group at 1-800-THIRST*.)

I think we can all agree that The Crown is highly entertaining and paints a nuanced and complicated portrait of Britain’s royal family while also refusing to shy away from some of the uglier truths about their history. Take season 3, which shines a harsh light on Queen Elizabeth II and her relationship with Prince Charles. Sooo, how does the royal family feel about the show depicting them like this? And more to the point, have they even watched? Does the royal fam share a Netflix account or what? Here’s what we know.

*Not a real number, don’t call it, lol.

Princess Eugenie Has One Hundred Percent Watched

According to Hello! magazine, Eugenie—aka the Queen’s granddaughter—said she’d watched “a couple of episodes” and was down. “It is filmed beautifully,” she said. “The music is wonderful, the story is beautiful. You feel very proud to watch it. I can’t speak for everyone, but that’s how I felt when I watched it.”

Cool cool cool, also, this has literally nothing to do with the topic at hand, but I found this cute GIF of Eugenie and her husband, Jack, and I need you all to look at it with me:

The Queen Freakin’ Loves It

Or at least she used to. This nugget of info came from Vanessa Kirby, who played Princess Margaret in seasons 1 and 2. Speaking to Vanity Fair, Vanessa said a friend of hers was at a party and overheard Princess Eugenie confirm that her “granny” is a fan. “A friend of mine was at a party and didn’t know anyone, so he sidled up to this group who were talking about The Crown, when one said, ‘Well, my granny watches it and really likes it,’” Vanessa revealed. “It slowly dawned on him that the girl was Eugenie and her granny was the queen.”

Queen Elizabeth II’s son Prince Edward is apparently the one who got his mom hooked on The Crown, at least according to a ~source~. “It has been a long-standing arrangement that they drive to Windsor at the weekend to join the Queen for an informal supper while watching TV or a film,” said source told the Daily Express. “They have a Netflix account and urged her to watch it with them. Happily, she really liked it, although obviously, there were some depictions of events that she found too heavily dramatized.”

The Queen Was “Upset” by Season 2

A senior courtier told Express.co.uk that scenes about Prince Charles’s time at school—and Prince Philip’s insensitivity toward him—during the show’s second season didn’t sit well with her, but she understood there was nothing she could do about it.

“The Queen realizes that many who watch The Crown take it as an accurate portrayal of the royal family and she cannot change that,” the courtier said. “But I can convey that she was upset by the way Prince Philip is depicted as being a father insensitive to his son’s wellbeing. She was particularly annoyed at a scene in which Philip has no sympathy for a plainly upset Charles while he is flying him home from Scotland. That simply did not happen.”

Prince William Is Not Here for It

Olivia Colman, who plays Queen Elizabeth in season 3, met Prince William at a Buckingham Palace reception and they had a verrrrry awkward conversation about the show. “He asked what I was doing at the moment before he quickly added, ‘Actually, I know what you’re doing,’” Olivia said on The Graham Norton Show. “I was so excited and asked, ‘Have you watched it?’ His answer was a firm, ‘No.’ But he was very charming and very lovely.”

Too busy dancing to watch The Crown, clearly:

The Palace Got a Little Salty About the Show

So last September, The Crown’s showrunner Peter Morgan told The Times that he has meetings with “people who are very high ranking and very active within the organization” (aka the royal household) to “tell them what I have in mind and they brace themselves slightly.”

The Queen’s communications secretary then wrote a salty letter to The Guardian, saying:

“Your article (the writer of ‘The Crown’ reveals he keeps royal household in the picture, 7 September) may have the unfortunate consequence of leading your readers to believe that the television series ‘The Crown’ is made with some sort of endorsement by the royal household or an acceptance by the royal household that the drama is factually accurate.

We appreciate that readers of ‘The Guardian’ may enjoy this fictionalised interpretation of historical events but they should do so knowing that the royal household is not complicit in interpretations made by the programme.

The royal household has never agreed to vet or approve content, has not asked to know what topics will be included, and would never express a view as to the programme’s accuracy.”

So, sounds like they’re here for the show but not here for the drama. Which, understandable! Truly can’t wait for the “courtiers” to sound off on what Queen Elizabeth thinks of season 4. Bye!
