Oneohtrix Point Never Teases New Music

Published

The last few years have been, to say the least, big ones for Daniel Lopatin. His Oneohtrix Point Never project has continued to garner acclaim, at the same time that Lopatin has been asked to collaborate with more and more artists. Last year, he re-teamed with the Safdie brothers to score Uncut Gems. (Like his work for their 2017 film Good Time, it was pretty incredible — and worked perfectly with the movie at hand.) Before that, his 2018 album Age Of ranked as one of the best of the year, and was accompanied by the most ambitious live performances of his career. Most of us probably wouldn’t have put money on something coming from Lopatin so soon after all that, but it looks we would’ve been wrong.

Earlier today, OPN socials featured a new video that certainly appears to be leading up to the announcement of a new project. It’s a short animated clip full of melted psychedelic imagery and a bit of atmospheric music as well; Shazam identifies the music as “Tales From The Strash Stratum.” At the end, a logo teases something called Magic OPN. Way back in the project’s early days, Lopatin used to go by Magic Oneohtrix Point Never. Perhaps this ties back to the late ’00s somehow — or perhaps Lopatin’s just sifting through digital detritus, as he does.

5 Marvel properties that should get their own R-rated movie if the MCU is to keep up with DC after ‘Joker’

The success of Todd Phillips’s ‘Joker’ has significantly upped the demand for mature movies based on comic book characters and with good reason. Sure, the comic book medium’s target audience might still be quite young but that doesn’t mean these characters don’t have more depth to them than meets the eye.

While we’re quite certain DC will be doing a whole lot of R-rated films to follow up on ‘Joker’, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is still quite lacking in that area (‘Deadpool’ doesn’t count). So here are five Marvel Comics properties that we think should get their own R-rated movies.

Doctor Doom

If there’s one Marvel character who deserves his own movie, it’s Doctor Victor Von Doom. The character has been featured in every ‘Fantastic Four’ movie ever made and it’s inevitable that he will be introduced in the MCU eventually but that said, Doom would truly shine in his own R-rated film. There’s a certain likability to the character even though he might be a mad scientist and a dictator and we’d love to see the character get a proper exploration (perhaps with Michael Fassbender in the lead role).

Marvel Knights

To be clear, we’re not talking about the dormant comic book imprint (though that did give us some very enjoyable stories), what we’d like is a movie featuring the unnamed team assembled by Daredevil in ‘Marvel Knight’ #1 to capture the Punisher. That line-up featured Daredevil, Black Widow, Dagger, Moon Knight, Shang-Chi, and Luke Cage and the story had influenced Marvel’s Netflix shows. Perhaps the team’s roster could be adjusted a little to include more obscure heroes but there’s plenty of potential here for a great, gory, action movie.

Dafne Keen as X-23 in Logan (IMDb)

X-23

Laura Kinney, Wolverine’s clone, has had a very tragic life, raised to be a weapon, forced to kill her own mother, and turned into a prostitute before eventually finding some degree of peace at the Xavier Institute. The character made a very successful appearance on ‘Logan’ (played by Dafne Keen) and fans have been eagerly hoping to get more of her ever since. An R-rated movie would be able to really explore Laura’s life and truly do justice to her story.

Green Goblin

Perhaps the most famous Spider-Man villain of all time, the Green Goblin / Norman Osborn has had a number of film appearances, most notably being played by Willem Dafoe in Sam Raimi’s ‘Spider-Man’ trilogy. While the character is usually depicted as a raving lunatic, there’s still a lot to Norman that’s yet to be explored and an R-rated movie could be just what he needs to really bring out the Goblin within.

Mister Sinister

Characters like Doom and the Joker are interesting because somewhere, deep down, they still have a shred of humanity. Mister Sinister, on the other hand, is the most inhuman monster you could ever meet. The character has been referenced in multiple ‘X-Men’ movies but he’s never made an actual appearance in a live-action movie, which is a shame because he has a really fun (if not twisted) sense of humor. With a whole movie to focus on him, Marvel would be able to really showcase Sinister’s insanity while leaving audiences delightfully shocked.

Kim Kardashian, Kanye West take family trip with kids to ‘work things out’ after rapper’s bipolar episode

Although it seems like Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s relationship is as good as over, the pair is determined to not give up and continue working on their marriage. As a result, before things get to a place where they are beyond repair, the couple decided to take a family trip together to regroup and work through a tough time.

Sources told TMZ: “The couple decided to jump on a jet and take a private family vacation to try and work things out. We’re told the trip was something the couple discussed when Kim visited Kanye in an emotional trip to Wyoming last weekend.” In photos that emerged over the weekend, Kanye was seen boarding a private jet in Wyoming with his son, Saint West. The youngster was seen getting on the same plane at a landing strip Sunday in Cody that his father had boarded earlier with a member of what seemed like the security team.

Although neither the KKW Beauty mogul nor any of the other Kardashian-Jenner clan was photographed, it is a possibility that the rest of the family was already inside when the pictures were clicked. It was unclear as to where the jet was headed but it was reported that the plane had taken off from Los Angeles, California before arriving in Wyoming. The vacation came after Kim flew to the Wyoming ranch where Kanye was holed up after weeks of the rapper refusing to meet his wife. Last week, photos taken by paparazzi of the power couple, revealed a tearful Kim having an intense discussion with her husband.

According to reports, during her emotional visit to Wyoming to see her husband, Kim urged the rapper to abandon all thoughts of running for the president of the United States this year and “focus on his mental health instead.” “Kim urged Kanye to not move forward with running for president, but he won’t listen,” a source told People Magazine. In a Forbes interview earlier this month, the musician said, “God just gave me the clarity and said it’s time. You know I was out there, ended up in the hospital, people were calling me crazy. I’m not crazy.”

Although the KKW Beauty mogul initially appeared to support her husband’s presidential ambitions by reposting her husband’s declaration to run for office on her own social media page, along with an American flag emoji on July 4, she soon changed her tune after Kanye shockingly revealed at a South Carolina rally that the couple had considered having an abortion when she became pregnant with the oldest daughter North and later claimed on Twitter that Kim tried to have him “locked up.” He also called his mother-in-law “White supremacist” and called her ‘Kris Jung-un.’

Their meeting came after West apologized to the reality star on Saturday, July 25, for publicly sharing intimate details, which includes claims like his wife trying to have an affair with rapper Meek Mill. In a Twitter post, the 43-year-old said: “I would like to apologize to my wife Kim for going public with something that was a private matter. I did not cover her like she has covered me. To Kim, I want to say I know I hurt you. Please forgive me. Thank you for always being there for me.”
