‘The Crown’ Casts Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip

The Crown has a new Prince Philip. Game of Thrones actor and Oscar nominee Jonathan Pryce is set to appear in both Seasons 5 and 6 as Queen Elizabeth’s husband, Variety reports.

The actor is taking over the role from Tobias Menzies, who played the prince in Season 3 and Season 4, which is set to premiere on Netflix later this year. Matt Smith previously held the role in Seasons 1 and 2. When Pryce joins The Crown for Season 5, he will be accompanied by Imelda Staunton, the series’ next Queen Elizabeth, and Lesley Manville, Season 5’s Princess Margaret.

Pryce earned an Oscar nomination this year for his role in The Two Popes, playing Pope Francis alongside Anthony Hopkins‘ Pope Benedict. He’s also appeared in Glengarry Glen Ross and Tomorrow Never Dies, and more recently played High Sparrow on Game of Thrones.

While the fourth upcoming season of The Crown is due later in 2020, fans will have to wait a while to see Pryce in his Season 5 role. The show is taking a filming break — pre-planned and unrelated to the coronavirus pandemic — and won’t be back for its fifth season until 2022, since Netflix won’t being filming until June of next year.

Creator Peter Morgan originally said that Season 5 would be the final installment of The Crown, but he pleased fans when he revealed last month that the show would continue for Season 6, which will be its last season.

“As we started to discuss the storylines for Series 5, it soon became clear that in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story we should go back to the original plan and do six seasons,” he said at the time. “To be clear, Series 6 will not bring us any closer to present-day – it will simply enable us to cover the same period in greater detail.”

America Ferrera’s Superstore Return Extended — Plus, Get a First Look at COVID-Themed Season 6

America Ferrera isn’t punching out of Superstore as soon as we thought.

TVLine can exclusively confirm that Ferrera — whose previously announced departure from NBC’s No. 1 comedy was delayed due to COVID-19 — has signed on to appear in not one, but two Season 6 episodes. As a result, the sitcom’s milestone 100th episode will now double as Ferrera’s swan song.

The news comes as Superstore works to incorporate the ongoing coronavirus pandemic into Amy’s farewell storyline, which began last season when she accepted a corporate gig in California.

“We’re lucky enough to have America back for our first two episodes of the season,” co-showrunners Jonathan Green and Gabe Miller tell TVLine. “There was so much we wanted to explore with COVID and how it changes the world of Cloud 9 that we decided to focus on that in the premiere, with Amy starting her new job remotely while still trying to manage the store.

“The second episode will cover Amy’s last day at Cloud 9, so we can fully give her the sendoff she deserves,” they continue. “It’s also Superstore‘s 100th episode, so we’re excited that America will be celebrating that milestone with us.”

Further elaborating on Season 6’s COVID theme, Green and Miller tell us that the premiere will pick up where last season’s cliffhanger left off, as the virus delays Amy and Jonah’s move to California. “[There will be] time jumps within the episode taking us through the early months of the pandemic, [before we] gradually catch up to where things are now. We’ll show how all of our characters are handling the uncertainty, the panicky and difficult customers, and the new demands of the job.” That includes Glenn and Dina, who “initially enjoy being called ‘heroes,’ but that doesn’t last long.”

Superstore Season 6 premieres Thursday, Oct. 22 (NBC, 8/7c). Scroll down for an exclusive first look at Season 6’s key art, featuring essential workers Jonah, Dina, Garrett, Cheyenne, Mateo, Sandra and Glenn, all masked up and ready to work through the ongoing crisis.

She-Hulk: Tatiana Maslany cast in the Marvel show’s lead role

She-Hulk has been found! The Disney Plus and Marvel show has cast its lead actor. More details are yet to be revealed, but here’s what we know so far.

Orphan Black actor Tatiana Maslany is set to take on the lead role in the Disney Plus and Marvel TV series, She-Hulk, Deadline reports. The Marvel show was announced during D23 in 2019 but little news has been shared regarding the series, until now.

Maslany’s casting comes on the heels of behind-the-scenes updates from Disney and Marvel about the show.

Kat Coiro recently signed on as an executive producer and director of the pilot episode of She-Hulk. Coiro’s credits include TV hits such as It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Single Parents, and Dead to Me.

Jessica Gao—best known for her writing on Rick and Morty—has been confirmed as the showrunner for She-Hulk. Gao will also be handling writing duties and will serve as an executive producer for the series.

According to Deadline’s sources, it has been confirmed that Maslany will take on the lead role in the show. However, it is important to note that no confirmation has been received from Disney, Marvel, or Maslany.

But following Deadline’s announcement, Mark Ruffalo, who plays Dr. Bruce Banner/The Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, tweeted a welcome message to Maslany.

We can assume that Ruffalo’s message verifies Maslany’s involvement in the project but fans should still wait until a definitive statement from the actor and the production houses is released.

She-Hulk: Who is the Marvel character?

She-Hulk is the superhero form of Jennifer Walters, Esq, a well-regarded lawyer in the Marvel Comics universe. Following a blood transfusion received from her cousin, Banner, Walters begins to exhibit similar powers as the Hulk.

Unlike the Hulk, who is powerful but not very human, Walters is able to control her emotions and remains true to her personality even in Hulk form.

While her superpowers have always been a major draw for the character, She-Hulk’s humor and her alter-ego Walters’ work as a lawyer, has made her the memorable and fan-favorite character she is today.

The She-Hulk show will most likely balance both aspects of the character, and with Emmy Award-winning Maslany is the lead, Walters will get a great deal of depth.

While Maslany’s acting abilities are undeniable, many fans have remarked that she doesn’t quite fit the physicality of the character. One can assume that Maslany will play the Walters role while She-Hulk will be created using the motion-capture CGI used on Ruffalo in the MCU.

Despite the lack of confirmation at the moment, it seems that multiple sources believe that Maslany has bagged the role. Not only is it exciting for fans to see a beloved character cast, but it is also proof that the show is going ahead.

She-Hulk is one of a number of Marvel and Disney Plus shows slated for release, including WandaVision, slated for release in late 2020, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Loki.
